Hi Uwe,

As you understand everything about GNU and Linux, we can approve your
project, you can change anything about your project after this, except
the system name.

I have approved your project.  You will receive an automated e-mail
containing detailed information about the approval.

Regards,

Jonathan Gonzalez V. <zeus>

Hi,

I have read your link and understand the difference between GNU and Linux and why we should emphasise the OS being GNU/Linux and not just Linux.
I was not aware of the importance when I chose the program name and I did not want to change it afterwards, because I have come accustomed to the handle "lmc" which is all over the source code.

If I understand it correctly it is possible to change the long name of the project later on. In case I get to think of something better than "LMC Movie Catalogue" I might want to change the name in future. I'd come back to Savannah to check wether the name conflicts with anything; it won't have Linux or GNU/Linux in it, though.
If that is not possible - I'll just stick to LMC Movie Catalogue.

Thanks,

Uwe Mayer <merkosh>

Hi Uwe Mayer,

There's something that you must know, it's that "Linux" is just a
kernel of a more complex system that we like to refer to as GNU/Linux,
to emphasize the ideals of the Free Software movement.

For more information, see http://www.gnu.org/gnu/linux-and-gnu.html.

Please read the URL above with attention, because there's it's
explained why we didn't' accept the word "Linux" in your project
name. This point it's very important to approve your project, because
you must understand, when the word "Linux" must be used and when you
must use "GNU/Linux", if you understand this, we can approve your
project.

Currently your tarball it's ready for approval. Are you agree with
what I pointed above about "Linux and GNU"? did you understand
everything? If you have any doubt about this, please ask us, we want
to clarify any doubt in this point.

Regards,

I would like to stick the the lmc handle. Is it possible to use a i.e. recursive handle lmc = "LMC Movie Catalogue"?

LICENSE.ui-FILES and LICENSE.mng-FILES files were added to the projects root directory.

I uploaded rel 0.3.2 tar.gz archive with above changes.

Thanks

Hi Uwe Mayer,

I'm evaluating the project you submitted for approval in Savannah.

Our policy doesn't accept names with 'Linux' in the name, because this
will produce some confusions in the user, maybe you could change it
for another one, if you do not want to change we will have to reject
your project.

I reviewed the source code that you submitted and you have the
Copyright and License notices missing in all the .ui files and in the
.mng file, consider to fix this. If you cannot include a proper
Copyright and License notice inside of any file, consider to create a
file called 'LICENSE.kind-FILES', and put here the proper Copyright
and License notices for those files.

If you are willing to make the changes mentioned above, please provide
us with an URL to an updated tarball of your project.  Upon review, we
will reconsider your project for inclusion in Savannah.

The current version of lmc has advanced from release 0.2 to 0.3.1. The tar-gz ball is attached below.
The issue with the containing .gif has been settled, an animated .mng is now used instead.

###### ORIGINAL SUBMISSION DETAILS ######

System Group Name:
-----------------
  lmc

Full Name:
----------
  Linux Movie Catalogue

Type:
-----
  non-GNU

License:
--------
GNU General Public License V2 or later

Other License:
--------------

Description:
------------
The project I'd like to publish is called LMC (GNU/Linux Movie Catalogue) and is primarily a port of the Windows program AMC (Ant Movie Catalog) by Antoine Potten, released Open Source under the GPL v2.

AMC:
http://www.antp.be/software/moviecatalog

"primarily", because I intend to change a few things or add some features.

LMC is a graphical tool written mainly in Python and Qt (using PyQt) which manages a collection of movie CDs/DVDs to store media properties as well as title information. To do that it relies on backends like trancode (tcprobe) to scan movie files or scripts (currently only one in Perl) which query movie databases on the internet for title information /picture, etc.

The project uses autoconf and automake to build the system.

You can download a working copy of LMC from:
http://www.master-ai.uni-karlsruhe.de/~merkosh/lmc-0.2.tar.gz

The basic things are working, i.e. saving, loading, adding records, removing, query IMDB, scan file with tcprobe, so it can be used, but not all intended features are yet implemented.

Other Software Required:
------------------------
  None known.

I might tackle porting the "Pascal Script" scripts used by AMC to download information from online databases, using Free Pascal or Kylix, or whatever works and is available on my Debian ;).

Other Comments:
---------------
I am aware that there is a similar project, XAMC (http://home.gna.org/xamc/), which is also hosted by Gna!. LMC and XAMC were developed independently from eachother and do not share a commen line of code. However, I was inspired by XAMC to take up work on LMC again and release it. Bevore that I tried to communicate with the author of XAMC, but it seems the project is not under construction any more and my version was already farther than the one for download for XAMC.

Also: I applied at Gna! for hosting this project. However, there is a problem with LMC containing "Linux" in the program name, which might lead to confusion about the GNU/Linux operating system. I would rather not having to find another name, if Savannah's hosting policy allows that.

Last, the tar-ball of LMC v0.2 yet contains one animated gif. This will be replaced by an animated .mng in case the project name does not pose a problem.
