"Can I add GNU MP as an optional dependency? (GNU MP is LGPL)
I think I can't add MIRACL as an optional dependency too because it uses a non-free license, is it right?"

Yes, that's right.

"I don't know which licenses are suitable for licensing images ( I just found Free Art license, but I don't know where to put the notice of the license for the images and not even if it is a suitable or valid free license)"

The license can be put in a separate file, in the same directory (for example README).

The Free Art license is a license we recommend for media files. Since the images are meant to be included in the documentation, it would make sense to also release them under the GFDL, to avoid any license incompatibility.

"the html page has in its beginning the notice of GNU FDL, before the part of the pseudo-code there is the notice of GNU GPL, is it the right way to dual-license the code?"

I think so. You could also explicitely state (for example, after the GFDL license notice) that the bits of code present in the documentation are dual-licensed. This way there is no ambiguity.

Hi,

"Some images are just math phormulas generated by Open Office, I believe they can't be licensed, other images are just math manual drafts scanned by me, I think they don't need to be licensed, but if they need I will license them too."

You own the copyright of the documents you generate with OpenOffice.org (unless if you include content from 3rd-parties, such as clip-arts, in which case that content's copyright also applies).

It is necessary indeed to explicitely state under which license you released your media files.

"Since it is an algorithm I have doubts about wether licensing the pseudo-code under GNU GPL or GNU FDL, if it can be licensed by both it is already ok.)"

Since you include the code in the documentation it is best to dual-license the source code under the 2 licenses.

Please fix this and send us an updated tarball. We'll then review again the project.

Cheers.

Registration Details

  • Name: Downstairs Sort
  • System Name:  dssort
  • Type: non-GNU software & documentation
  • License: GNU Free Documentation License (GNU General public license v3 for example code

Since it is an algorithm I have doubts about wether licensing the pseudo-code under GNU GPL or GNU FDL, if it can be licensed by both it is already ok.)

Description:

Downstairs Sort is an algorithm inspired by Bead Sort, but Downstairs Sort works completely different from standard sorting algorithms because it works under pure mathematic, the tarball contains an html page with the explanation of Downstairs Sort, some examples for better understanding the idea and pseudo-code. There's an example source code of it in C language too.

Other Software Required:

in C language it just needs the standard math.h, in other languages it may (or not) require math libraries

Other Comments:

Some images are just math phormulas generated by Open Office, I believe they can't be licensed, other images are just math manual drafts scanned by me, I think they don't need to be licensed, but if they need I will license them too.

Some characters of the html page are not working under konqueror, but they're ok under firefox and other web browsers.

This project was submitted in november with the name Ladder Sort, but I believe there is something with similar name, now project registration is back then I'm resubmitting under the name of Downstairs Sort
