Hi Cedric,
everything ok now. We will activate your project soon.

About "GNU/Linux" issue, I just wanted to be sure you understood the problem. Our goal at Savannah is to teach people about our principles, rather than coerce people into applying them.

Regards,

Franco.

Hi Franco,

no problem for the delay. Most of us have tight schedules :).

I understand the "GNU/Linux" issue pretty well (I think). I followed the growing of the "open source" movement over the years and I strongly feel a member of the free software community which has always been clear about its goals: promote freedom and sharing. Some people have chosen to emphasize the openness of their software to promote them to the business world. They don't especially care about freedom and sharing. They needed some "sexy" stuff to, in a way, "think different," be "cool" and attractive to business people. So they picked up the openness of source code. And, when building complex systems based on GNU which was already available and "open source," they chose to "forget" about the freedom aspect of their system and simply dropped the "GNU" part of it which didn't fit with their goals.
That's not what I do with my (small) software. I feel close to the GNU community. I just have a small disagreement on the use of a license, for some political motives. That's why I release everything I do in the public domain. (To state it shortly: how can one feel free when using a system, the justice/police, to "protect" him/her? I mean, the justice/police forces you to respect the rules of the society, there is no freedom in there. When you use a license to "protect" your work you end up depending on the justice/police to protect you. But OK, this is off-topic. And the GPL is a good thing practically speaking since so many people use it to release some software. Maybe these people would not release anything without the GPL.)

Anyway the file IDEAS has already been modified so everything is OK on my side I guess.

Take care,
Cedric.

Hi again Cedric. Sorry for the delay in the answer.

I checked the new version. I suggest to change the "Linux" to
"GNU/Linux" in any file (even IDEAS), if they are referring to whole OS and not just the kernel. As I told you, we ask to acknowledge our work in the GNU Project. We want to emphatic freedom values and that's because is important to give credit to the GNU Project or talk about Free Software movement. Doing that, you help to inform others that those values of freedom brought the system into existence.
You can get more information about this issue in this link:
http://www.gnu.org/gnu/gnu-linux-faq.html.

The rest of your submission seems to be OK now. We wait for your answer.

Franco Iacomella

Hi Franco,

it's been around ten days without comment on my last tarball.
Should I consider that gcomposer will not find its home at savannah and look for another place to put it?

Thanks,
Cedric.

Hi Franco,

there is a new tarball:
http://seddata.free.fr/gcomposer-0.9.4pre1.tar.gz
with the required changes.
Normally IDEAS contains emails but I applied the changes. I would prefer to keep the original messages (so linux instead of GNU/Linux) but if you think it's not possible that's not a big issue.

Thanks for taking time to review my project.

Take care,
Cedric.

PS: you can call me Cedric. Roux is my family's name.
PPS: the URL for the project in the various files will be changed if you accept gcomposer at savannah. I first need to know the new URL.

Hello Roux, I am reviewing the project you submitted for hosting at Savannah.

Here are my observations:

  - Files inside folders: 'actions', 'states', 'tutorial' and some in 'gui'  lacks of the Domain Public terms notice header.

  - In FOR_WINDOWS file, in line 3, you should change "Linux" to "GNU" or "GNU/Linux". You should do that also in the "IDEAS" file (lines 273, 312, 349, 353 and 356). That's because, to use our hosting services, you should acknowledge our work, by referring to this system as "GNU/Linux", not as just "Linux", when you mention it in.

If you are willing to make those changes, please submit a new updated package or provide us with an URL to get it. After that, we will reconsider your project for inclusion in Savannah.

Regards,

Franco Iacomella.
