As it happens I had structured my current skillset, using a Freemind mindmap and grading each skill 1,2,3,4 etc.
Using the map, allows structure to be added to the skillset, so 'webdesign' can be further broken into PHP, HTML, stylesheets skill level etc.
How about the capability to upload Freemind map skillsets to the user profile. There is an existing javascript project somewhere for rendering maps.
Maybe that is too hard. I suppose an easier way to achieve the same thing, (i.e. structured skillsets) would be via a tree.
It seems there are many freemind rendering plugins for wikis and CMS engines like drupal etc. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FreeMind
There are several listed there, particularly the MediaWiki one and the flash browser.

The GNU Herds webapp will not require JavaScript or Flash being installed in the browser. The project tries to adapt to any device.

Well, perhaps the mind map idea is overly-elaborate, when a simple tree structure would do, and that can be rendered in plain HTML + CSS.
