Tue 02 Nov 2004 07:38:54 AM UTC, comment #1:

This is not an issue, as the SnmpTextualConvention type returns itself upon initialize. Instead what was causing this behaviour was importing the corresponding type definition(s) from SMIv1 (instead of SMIv2 where TEXTUAL-CONVENTION is used).

This bug is invalid, closing.

The SnmpTextualConvention type information is not accessible as the type is completely removed during type resolution. This cause serious problems for applications that need to extract the information from the textual description, such as the display hint or the description text.

The resolution seems to be to only semi-resolve SnmpTextualConvention types in those cases where they are the top-level type. That is, if a symbol is defined as being of the SnmpTextualConvetion type (and not a TypeReference pointing to one), the textual convention type should be resolved but the symbol type should NOT be changed to the result.
