"How to detect filesystem types and, more important, free space
on HDD drives by MLDonkey?"
- already solved in current CVS

As HFS+ does not support sparse files this bug can't be solved.

perhaps we should support emulate_sparsefiles for all networks and auto-enable it for filesystems that don't support sparse files

---from that page:
Sparse files and zero filling. UFS supports sparse files, which are a way for the file system to store the data in files without storing unused space allocated for those files. HFS+ does not support sparse files and, in fact, zero-fills all bytes allocated for a file until end-of-file.
---
i guess that seems to explain it.
i don't know what filesystem some of the other mac-os-x-mldonkey-users use, perhaps you could ask them in the forum.
you could try to enable emulate_sparsefile and disable random_order_download, that could do the trick for donkey downloads.

no it doesn't

Mac OS X uses HFS+ as default file system

do you know if your filesystem supports sparse files?

i still can observe this sometimes. now with your 2.5-30ab_r234M source compiled with the latest ocaml version under Mac OS X 10.3.8 (Build 7U16). neither buffer_writes nor emulate_sparse_files is enabled. it does this even when no bit of the file was downloaded.

thanks for developing mldonkey

hu? that would amaze me. what os and what version of it do you run? do you have the option buffer_writes or emulate_sparse_files enabled (they should not be enabled unless you know what you do [= did read the code])?

when a file is canceled it should just remove the file, nothing more.

Why has mldonkey to cause disk activity (write) in size of the concerning files?

Whit the 'cancel' command it does not only delete the file but writes the whole file somewhere.

Same after 'kill' command. If there are some files in the queue this is rather annoying.
