qvm86 never used major 222. It uses a dynamically allocated misc device.
If you're using udev or devfs the device node should be created automatically.

Hi,

I just downloaded the sources of qvm86 and
tried to install and use it under SuSE-9.2 Professional.
I have some problems with /dev/qvm86. Here is
what I did:

1. mknod /dev/qvm86 c 222 0
2. chmod 666 /dev/qvm86
3. echo "alias char-major-222 qvm86"
4. Start QEMU --> Module qvm86 gets loaded
BUT: Error message "Could not open '/dev/qvm86' - ..."
5. ls -l /dev/qvm86
crw---- root root 10,62 2005-04-04 ... /dev/qvm86
6. chmod 666 /dev/qvm86
7. Start QEMU --> "QEMU acceleration layer enabled"

I looked at /var/log/messages. There it says
... qvm86: Created device 10.62
In "qvm86-linux" you read something like
MISC_MAJOR and MISC_DYNAMIC_MINOR.

Is major 222 obsolete?
