0.30.207 has a '--rescue' option for 'vserver ... start' which keeps the context open for some time. I think this gives enough time to execute 'chkconfig' or whatever is needed to fix the vserver.

to change the services of a badly configured guest
I usually did the following ...

vserver test chkconfig --list
'vserver ... suexec' is supported for running vservers only; aborting...

now if this is only supported for running vservers
(should read guests) then how am I supposed to
configure the one service which will keep the guest
running? this is somewhat chicken/egg

solutions:

- provide a minimal guest startup for such maintenance
- allow to 'enter' a guest which is not running by
doing the guest startup as it was done before ...

in any case the following has to be handled correctly:

- vserver with initstyle=plain and/or fake-init
- mounting and namespaces
