Resolved in "version 1.4, 2005/09/03 00:22:33" of 'toolbar.xrc'.

As shown in "version 1.3, 2005/08/28 15:57:54", this never was
a wx defect, so I've updated "Item group" to reflect that.

I restored the "Severity" to "4 - Important". Any outsider would
probably view this item as trivial, but our policy is to assign
that higher "Severity" to every defect that happened to appear
on a particular list shared with important users at the beginning
of 2005 unless they definitively change its rating.

OK, I just didn't realize that.

Is the same true of the 'margins' tag? I've tried changing
that tag in 'toolbar.xrc', but is seems to have no effect,
in msw at least.

That would be unwise.

You accomplished the real goal with this change:
toolbar.xrc,v 1.3 2005/08/28 15:57:54

I'm going to leave this open only to remind me to remove the
comment
WX !! The 'separation' and 'packing' tags seem to have no effect.
in 'toolbar.xrc', and the 'margins' tag there if I've guessed
correctly now that it isn't supposed to do anything in msw.

"Separator" is not a tag but a class of an XRC object, so this was just incorrect XRC syntax. As to separation and packing, they're parsed but don't do anything in Win32 toolbar implementation. This probably could be somehow mapped to TB_SETPADDING but I really wonder if it's wise to change the native appearance of toolbar without good reasons?

Oh--I think I wrote
The wxxrc separation and packing tags seem to have no effect.
but surrounded the tag names with less-than and greater-than
symbols--and savannah probably tried interpreting them as html,
decided they're invalid html, and stripped them, leaving only
the cryptic report:
The wxxrc and tags seem to have no effect.

Anyway, see lines 37 and 38 of the file with this RCS Id:
$Id: toolbar.xrc,v 1.2 2005/03/15 14:33:51 chicares Exp $
What I observe, with wx-2.5.4, is a row of toolbar buttons
all aligned left with no spacing; these tags seem to have
no effect. Also see line 79 of the same file: the tag called
separator (now I fear to quote its name in any way) seems
not to do anything, and the note just preceding that says
that this (lack of) behavior can be observed in a wx sample
file--but that last observation obviously predates wx-2.5.4
because it refers to wxxrc in the contrib directory.

What I'm really trying to accomplish is to have, for instance,
the File {New | Open | Save} toolbar buttons shown together
contiguously, then a small space, then the Print button, etc.,
and to do all of that only in the '.xrc' file without writing
any custom code.

Sorry, could you please explain which wxrc tags have no effect?
