Robert Elz had submitted a patch to the mailing list, and I was forwarded a copy by mlh @ zip com au. The problem can be reproduced with the data that Scott Lipcon provided if
sortm is run with -textfield subject.

The patch has been applied, and the bug fixed.

Scott Lipcon reported to me that the current CVS copy doesn't
crash for him, either.

I can't duplicate this problem with the data provided on my
Linux box with the current CVS code. I can't access the
mail archive link in the comments for this bug to see
what the fix is, or determine if it's been applied.

I found time to track down the bad message - it looks like a Korean spam, with funny characters in the subject line. The bad message is at http://mercea.net/~slipcon/misc/bad-message.gz

I also tried sortm from the latest CVS, and it still core dumps.

If anyone has time to look at this, that would be great.

I've seen this a few times now: sortm doesn't like something in a message, and core dumps. I don't have time to try to find the offending message right now, but I have a tarfile of the 100 or so messages in my +fbsd-stable folder, and running 'sortm -textfield subject' on that folder causes a core dump.

I am running nmh 1.0.4 from the FreeBSD port collection, on FreeBSD 4.6-STABLE.

The tarfile of the offending folder is at http://mercea.net/~slipcon/misc/freebsd-sortm-crash.tar.gz
