Makre sure that gnokii was not compiled (configured) with --disable-debug (or similiar) flag.

the following (default) use flags where used:
X, bluetooth, irda, nls
any other way to generate debug information?

And what is on output? Please give more details on your setup.

it is:
[logging]
# where to log the debug output (on: stderr, off: /dev/null)
debug = on

debug = on needs to be in the [logging] section (as docs say).

OK,
welp that didnt produced much (dunno if this is a seperate issue)
anyhow, this is what I got:
I am using Bluetooth to access the phone.
my current locale:
LC_PAPER=he_IL.utf8
LC_ADDRESS=he_IL.utf8
LC_MONETARY=he_IL.utf8
LC_NUMERIC=he_IL.utf8
LC_TELEPHONE=he_IL.utf8
LC_MESSAGES=en_US.utf8
LC_COLLATE=he_IL.utf8
LC_IDENTIFICATION=he_IL.utf8
LC_MEASUREMENT=he_IL.utf8
LC_CTYPE=en_US.utf8
LC_TIME=en_US.utf8
LC_NAME=he_IL.utf8
which is mostly hebrew, expect specific things I want in english...
the errfile shows only:
GNOKII Version 0.6.10
this even though debug=on in /etc/gnokiirc and I dont have a local file at ~/.gnokiirc
I also tried setting LC_ALL to he_IL.utf8, with the same results
the command I am issuing is:
gnokii --getsms OU 3 3
please note that if I try reading from IN, it works fine, in hebrew and english.

Please post gnokii debug output when reading this message. Make sure that your locale is correctly set (gnokii checks LC_ALL environmental variable; it should be set to HE_IL.utf8 or something).

Please provide an example of incorrectly decoded/encoded sms with the debug output enabled.
|
Fri 05 Aug 2005 12:41:34 PM UTC, original submission:
gnokii up to 0.6.8 uses char_unicode_decode and char_unicode_encode functions which aren't common and multilanguage. They need at least to be turned off optionally and at most to be replaced with valid iconv calls with local charset configurable, otherwise UTF-8 sms messages in phone are received broken on a computer incompatible with Latin1 charset.
Sorry, no fix known.
