This could be the case due to rehashing.
Can you confirm the core is hashing files?

set verbosity "md4"

puts hashing infos into the logfile.

After upgrading from 2.5.28 to 2.6.0, the mlnet process keeps using up all available CPU time while downloading some files from the Donkey network and sharing a relatively large number of files (my box shares the ~2000 rpm files making up Ark Linux). Other than using up all idle time, it works.

Going back to 2.5.28 brings the CPU usage down to normal levels.
