I believe when the vconfig command is run when shutting down the vserver is incorrect. I believe that it is trying to run:

vconfig rem eth0 1031

I think the command should be:

vconfig rem eth0.1031

This is because the vconfig command requires that you use the vlan identifier and not the interface and vlanid (as it creates eth0.vlan1031).

I haven't tried setting the vconfig command to use a different pattern.

cheers

There is an intersting thread that might be of use:

http://www.paul.sladen.org/vserver/archives/200507/0113.html

The work around for this bug is to bring up the vlan interface using vconfig and then assign the IP. Use the nodev option in /etc/vserver/$HOST/interface/0 so it doesn't try to bring up the interface.

Hope that helps.

Built a fresh vserver with a vlan interface. When starting the vserver, the vlan interface is created with a 127.0.0.1 address. When shutting down the interface, it is unable to remove the vlan interface.

The vserver build command was:

vserver testsrv build -m debootstrap --hostname test.uksolutions.net --interface eth0.1031:10.0.31.254/24 -- -d sarge

This should create a vserver with an VLAN interface of 1031 and the IP address 10.0.31.254. When starting the vserver, the interface is created but with 127.0.0.1 IP:

backup:~# vserver testsrv start
Added VLAN with VID == 1031 to IF -:eth0:-
.
.
.

eth0.1031 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:11:D8:BA:54:C6
inet addr:127.0.0.1 Bcast:127.255.255.255 Mask:255.0.0.0
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)

When shutting down the vserver. the interface still remains:

backup:~# vserver testsrv stop
.
.
.
ifdown: shutdown eth0.1031: Permission denied
ifdown: shutdown eth0.1031: Permission denied
ERROR: trying to remove VLAN -:eth0:- error: Operation not permitted

And from ifconfig:

eth0.1031 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:11:D8:BA:54:C6
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)

IP removed but interface still available.
