Because the EDK network is designed to distribute few, but large files. That means for example an album of an artist which gives
his/her music away for free is distributed as one *.zip file and
not as 15+ *.mp3 files.

Most people don“t share many files. I share only < 20 special files
for which I am the only source on the net.

EDK servers do have limits for how many shares a client might
send to the server:
http://mldonkey.berlios.de/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=3949

Thats the reason only a few users (you were not the only one)
complained about it. But you were the first one reporting success
with Pangos patch so I will include it in the next release of MLDonkey.

It works!! We're back in action! It was an extremely annoying bug. What was the problem? And, more curiously, why weren't more people complaining?

After unsharing one of my folders, they still exist in shared_files_new.ini, but this time they don't become reshared, as happened before. I guess that only happens the first time it's re-shared.

Just to repeat, all my files do appear in the shared_files_new file, but not to mlnet (at least not to it's web interface). Even after removing the shares, and restarting. When I try to add the shared folder again, a small fraction of them do become reshared.

I am currently using MLNet 2.6.7 (in gentoo), and with my current compilation, I can't seem to view the "log". It's always blank, whereas before it showed the unread contents before being erased.

Weeks have gone by, and mlnet has been restarted many times, and still only a fraction of my shares appear.

However, after I deleted my shared folders (and left them deleted), mlnet started to add all the files!

Then, after I restarted, they all disappear. However, they all still remain in shared_files_new.ini!?!

Why isn't mldonkey reading/updating this file? Why isn't mldonkey adding my shares as it should? Why don't other people complain about this problem? Hmm.

No, I spoke too soon. This (comment #1) only works on some directories, and only temporarily. The next time I start the core, the newly added files no longer appear in my list of shared files =(.

Hmmm. New discovery. If I remove one of the shared directories, and then add it again, the files do become shared.

Apparently, the problem only exists if I share all the directories at once!

Ever since I switched to the 2.6.x series (including the current 2.6.4), most of the files and directories in my list of shares are not being shared.

All my files were shared properly when I was using 2.5.28.

I have a few thousand files that I'd like to share, involving many subdirectories.

I'm not really sure how the files are currently being selected - but they aren't based on priority, or size, or order of specified shared dirs. They are being shared using the all_files strategy.

In my mp3 collection, for example, only the first few songs (alphabetically sorted) are being shared. About 10 of my 15 shared directories are being totally ignored. If I remove all shares, and try to re-share everything, the same files are selected, so It doesn't appear to be random either.

I'm currently fixed at about 580 files (120GB) .. which is less than 30% of the total size of my shares.
