I think your diagnosis is incorrect. We have the code as follows:
case 0:
/* return at the end of the string */
return;
so in case when char_uni_alphabet_encode() returns 0 we immediately exit the function not going to sprintf.

Hi, i looked at the problem closer and is due to for cycle in char_ucs2_encode. length = char_uni_alphabet_encode thus, i_len is not increased and loop runs until sprintf causes segmentation fault (o_len is being increased).

Hope you find the reason why char_uni_alphabet_encode returns 0 and fix it. Or possibly i_len++ would help if length==0 ?
