Thank you for providing a patch for this problem.

Unfortunately I don't have enough skills to compile freetype on my own, I'll wait until a new version of freetype will be released for Mandriva!

This should be fixed now. Please test.

Rogier van Dalen has reported the following on the FreeType mailing list:

I did as much investigation as my time allowed. This
error happens with my TrueTypeViewer as well. As far as
I can see, my interpreter skips over some vital Delta
instructions in "N" because store[2] != 6. store[2]
happens to be 1. (I've got no idea what the value in
store[2] stands for.)

So it looks not easy to fix quickly...

Hello there,
I can reproduce this problem on my system! It happens when BCI is enabeled in freetype.
Please have a look at the attached ScreenShot.

I'm using Mandriva 2007 with libfreetype from the PLF-sources (BCI enabeled).

If you want to know how freetype is compiled, please have a look at the SRC.RPM of Mandriva, they are using a lot of other patches.

I can confirm this problem! It only occurs with BCI enabeled version of freetype.

I'm using Mandriva 2007 with libfreetype-package from PLF (enabeled BCI)

If you want to know how freetype is compiled, please have a look at the src.rpm - Mandriva uses a lot of other patches.

It's probably best if you report this to the Ubuntu people.
They may then contact us if this problem is still in the CVS.

FreeType version is 2.1.10 (used in development branch of ubuntu linux), and im afraid i don't have the know-how to tell you how it was compiled.

autohinting is disabled, hinting is on and set to full. the problem occurs with or without antialising.

screenshot is attached, please look closer at uppercase N, W and V characters.

if more information is needed, please tell me what steps i should take and i will be glad to provide more details.

note: i have found the same exact problem (but no resolution) here - http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/freetype-devel/2005-11/msg00118.html

I can't repeat that. Please give more details how you've
compiled FreeType and which version you use. A screenshot
explaining what you mean with `weird' would help too.

Sat 28 Jan 2006 06:34:00 PM UTC, original submission:

i found that the Verdana bold font has weird rendering of the uppercase N and W characters, then i tried ftview and got a weird behaviour:

> ftview -r 96 10 ~/verdanab.ttf:

looks ok... but if i press up or down (11 or 9 pts) the N and W characters look weird again.

> ftview -r 96 11 ~/verdanab.ttf && ftview -r 96 9 ~/verdanab.ttf:

all the characters are rendered correctly

somehow i have a feeling this could be cache related, but i don't have any knowlege to speculate over it.
