For example, try:

$ gksudo echo "test this" please
'test this' 'please'
$ gksudo cat /etc/inittab
cat: '/etc/inittab': No such file or directory

As you can see from the above examples, the proper executable is run, but all its commandline arguments become infected by single-quotes, which is incorrect.
