Scanning only the source range the AudioClip covers, please test!

Ah ok.

Well, I've put the "normalize" factor into the AudioClip view, so you have feedback how much of a gain boost the normalize function made.

By splitting the gain and normalize factor, you can easily get back to normalized gain value by resetting the gain value.
The point with normalize is that it scans the audio file, which can take up a large amount of time.

So accidently (or on purpose) moving the Clip gain a bit means you have to rescan to normalize again which is a slow operation :-)

It could be stored much more efficiently in the Peak files, but this would be something for a future release.....

At least, the possibility to have the AudioClip gain to be a Curve ?

Not at all, IMO. Just re-normalize. If the user forgets to do so, it will clip, but that's the users problem. He will always be able to boost the gain until clipping occurs. So what!

Re-normalize? Think of normalizing as 'calculating the optimum gain'. That doesn't mean it must not be changed anymore. What's the point in normalizing and then changing the gain? It won't be normalized anymore. To me two competing gain values seem rather confusing. With one gain value, a normalize function which sets this value to +X dB will always normalize the clip. If I change the gain afterwards, normalizing again really does normalize it again.

And what if I have a clip with only shows part of an audiosource, I do "normalize", and after that I move an edge, so more of the audiosource becomes used.

This invalidates the normalize function.

How to solve this particular issue ?

Mixing Clip gain and normalize gain seems a bad idea to me...
Say I've normalized a clip, but just want to lower volume a bit, so I use the gain.
After that adjustment, how am I supposed to know the value of gain to have my normalize back????
It becomes even worse when Gain becomes a Curve....

But perhaps I missed the clue?

If you could brain storm on these for me, would be lovel :-)

The normalize function currently scans the entire audio source file for the highest level. It should, however, only scan the section of the source file which is actually used in the audio clip. It's the highest level of the clip which should be boosted to 0 dB, not the highest level of the source file.

Furthermore, I think having 'gain' and 'normalize gain' for audio clips is redundant. Normalize should directly change the gain, so it can be changed by the user as well.
