PYTHONPATH is used by the python interpreter as a list of extra locations to search for packages/modules (additions to sys.path). configure uses it as an override for the location of the python interpreter. If you have PYTHONPATH set in your environment for "use" by the normal interpreter, installing jailkit puts "#!/some/directory" as the first line of the python scripts, which leads to a rather confusing "permission denied" error when you try to run them.

configure should use a var name that does not clash with a standard python one, or it should take the path through a configure switch instead of an env var.
