1.43 is taking longer than I thought to develop, and this is a serious issue. I just released 1.42.2 with a quick fix so it skips the files rather than hanging.

I'm currently designing v1.43, it's using rdiff-backup as a backend so that it can copy "special files" and also speed up the copying.

fwbackups always hangs when it encounters named pipes in directories selected for backup.

This problem was identified by using strace and lsof on the python command line running fwbackups-runapp.py.

I have found that removing the named pipes allows fwbackups to continue, but this is an undesirable solution.

It would be great if fwbackups would ignore / skip named pipes by default.

System info:

  • Fedora Core 6
  • kernel 2.6.18-1.2849.fc6
  • Pentium IV 2.8GHZ box.
  • selinux enabled in "enforcing" mode.
  • fwbackups-1.42.1-2.fc6
  • python-2.4.4-1.fc6
