I'm not making it configurable because autodetection works well; the X-Mozilla-Status header is extremely rare outside of Mozilla mailboxes (I've grepped thousands of sample mails and I found no such header).

Indeed, removing the mailbox from mail-notification and setting it again helped. Thanks! Anyway -- I think this should be configurable.

Another possibility is that the mailbox contained a X-Mozilla-Status header at some point in the past, and that the removal of the message containing the header was not detected. Try restarting MN?

wow, you're pretty fast with closing a bug report!
But:
1. My mailbox contains NO X-Mozilla-whatever headers.
2. Even if it would: it shouln't be necessary to edit the mailbox to make it recognized by mail-notification!
I still consider this beeing a bug. Here's the output of "grep -i mozilla /var/mail/joze" gives:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; de; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061010 Firefox/2.0
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; FreeBSD i386; en; rv:1.8.0.7) Gecko/20061017 Epiphany/2.16 Firefox/1.5.0.7
so apparently I GOT mail from Mozilla mailers but I didn't use Mozilla myself to read mail.

It thinks it is a Mozilla mailbox because the first message contains a X-Mozilla-Status header. That normally only happens for mailboxes managed by a Mozilla mailer. Edit the file and remove that header.

No, the mailbox is the system mailbox which is written by some local MTA (exim4 in this case). I didn't tell mail-notification anything about "Mozilla", mail-notification chose "Mozilla" itself. So maybe the question is how to add /var/mail/joze to mail-notification w/o mail-notification thinking it's a Mozilla mailbox.

Is that mailbox really a Mozilla/Thunderbird/Seamonkey mailbox like MN thinks it is?

Hello,
mail-notification doesn't work with system mailboxes /var/mail/<user> or /var/spool/mail/<user>.
I use mail-notification 4.0-rc2, as it comes with debian. mail-notification displays correctly in the notification area and also displays test popups, but it doesn't do anything with real mail.
The attachment shows a screenshot of my mailbox configuration.
Any ideas?
Any help much appreciated.
