The patch seems to work fine, the port is now passed correctly.

Thanks for the quick fix!

Please try the attached patch.

It contains enhancements for the option module, every
option can now be marked as public (currently only
http_port). Such options are sent to the GUI regardless
of the logged-in user. With this patch the HTTP preview
works again for non-admin users.

Another enhancement is the marking of options needing
a MLDonkey core restart when changed. Not all options
needing a restart are marked yet. This info is currently
displayed only in HTML, Options in the new column Type.
This part of the patch is a prove-of-concept later to
be extended.

THIS ITEM WAS REASSIGNED TO PATCH #5677.

Running mldonkey 2.8.2 on a MIPSel Linkstation, using Sancho 0.9.4-58 to preview videos using VLC over the mldonkey HTTP streaming server. This only works as admin, since users aren't able to read the port the http server runs on (http_port).

Maybe this variable can become user readable or configurable, so that you can allow/disallow users to read that variable to allow for previews run by non-admins?
