It seems that version 2.3.3 fixes the issue (at least partially).
The already attached image shows the present issue: when faking bold accented characters, FreeType does not display accented characters fine.
Testing it further (but not in a completely) with gfontsampler, it seems that Freetype has problems with faked acute accented characters. With all Latin vowels (capitals or not) the accent is displayed wrong, excepting the iacute, that has the letter wrong displayed.
I hope it hepls,
Pablo

2.3.1 doesn't contain any fixes for that --
it was a quick release due to a serious bug in
the CFF driver.

The same happens with freetype-2.3.1.
With "ftview 20 Legendum.ttf" the font is displayed fine without glyph hinting ignored (key 'h'),
I hope it helps. Thanks,
Pablo

David,
I thought that my comments were obvious:
ftview 20 Legendum.otf
then pressing the `f' key: Glyphs like `o' and `s'
are moved down, `F' is moved up, etc. The same happens
with the Legendum.ttf version posted by Pablo.
I consider this error serious enough to delay the 2.3.1
release until you have been able to fix it.

I attached the font, but I don't know how to provide the information with ftview (sorry, but I'm afraid I don't know how to use it).
Werner, since you have done it, could you provide the infos to David?
Thanks,
Pablo

This bug report is incomplete, please provide the following if you don't want me to delete it:
- exact version of the font file, + a link or pointer to it
- point size, resolution, hinting mode, glyph indices or character code information
- simple steps to reproduce the problem, preferabbly with ftview
thanks in advance

I can confirm your observation with the Legendum version (0.50)
available from Rogier's homepage, just by using ftview.
It's definitly a bug in FreeType that autohinting of this
font moves some letters down.
David?

Sorry, Werner, I forgot to mention that I use the legacy version of Legendum.
This version seems to include glyphs for á and for í (or at least you can find it on the body text of the attached screenshot in "Está" and "todavía" (third and second lines of the body text).
I guess the problems comes when Firefox fakes the bold font and then is when (probably) FreeType has problems.
I hope it helps,
Pablo

The latest version (0.50) of Legendum doesn't contain
glyphs for á and í! Is it possible that they are
replaced with glyphs from another font? I'm not
sure whether Firefox is sophisticated enough to check
that e.g. á can be composed with `a' and a non-spacing
accent (which Legendum provides)...

Which legendum version? Regarding your home page,
I need a (small) screenshot.

With Legendum (http://home.kabelfoon.nl/~slam/fonts/fonts.html) and the unpatented and patented autohinters, FreeType-2.3.0 renders the glyphs contained on the mentioned page or at http://ousia.f2o.org/ not very accurately.
Glyphs are not displayed fine, because they seem to be located at different heights and to belong to different sizes.
Check the accent in the "á" glyph and the i in "í" (both on the first line of http://ousia.f2o.org/). Firefox makes the font bold, but characters should be rendered better.
Thanks for your work,
Pablo
