Wouldn't it be better to check the patch in now, but leave this bug report open so the opportunity for improvement isn't forgotten about.

This could well be a problem, only tested this on little-endian archs. Maybe there are more routines in there not big endian proof.
But I don't like the #ifdef "solution", I'd prefer a bit cleaner, proper C solution.
Need to think a bit more about that, or find someone to continue and improve my attempts.

There is a bug in the SNMP ASN1 decode routine on Big Endian systems. Attached is a patch that fixes the problem.
