I was thinking. The latest wiki has easy anti-spam tools (2 lines of commands basically stop any logged out or non email verified people from making spam posts.

And MyBB is easy to integrate and a lot less buggy than phpBB (very easy to skin as well).

Other than the wiki-forum integration (which I could quickly code), what else is stopping us from making these changes?

I'd be happy to do most of the work. I just need server access (through ssh), database access (through phpmyadmin?), and a backup to restore if something goes wrong.

Or you could do it yourself Kyle. Backup the wiki and forum folders and database data. Upload all new files, run any install/upgrade scripts. It should go really well.

The registration between mediawiki and phpbb was done a long time ago. Unfortunately, when the servers moved, as kieran said, I haven't found an smtp server to use that uses clear text, all of mine use ssl only.

currently it is set to no verification, I've been watching registrations when I have time, but after this week is done school will be out and I can spend more time on it.

I will try and activate some accounts right now

When the server the site was hosted on crashed, a back up had to be used, and I'm guessing this new host is not configured to send mails.

Hopefully, with AppleBoys permission, I can upgrade the wiki and forum (or maybe install a new one called MyBB), and link the two registrations together again.

This would mean I can disable having to verify emails, just until the mail server is up and running again.

I'm one of those.

A way around this is to register on the wiki (since they use the same user database). But that won;t work for me since my user name is tied up.

thanx for this input. sending mails is especially important for registering i guess. so this has to be adressd.

looking at the user list i see the 50 most recent registrations didn't post anything so far. that's surprising if it hasn't to do with a bug.

i haven't had any similar problem in any other forum. could there be a way how i could get through it?
