Sorry, but you have to take a closer look on this, it's quite an annoying bug.

I found that this error only occurs when clicking "Open" in the new message popup. Once again, I have the "Launch the mail reader" option chosen. This works ok when clicking the icon in the tray (it opens Thunderbird), but in the popup it opens the web browser as mentioned previously.

The option I have selected in the preferences is "Launch the mail reader". I haven't found a pattern for this to happen, it just seems to happen at random - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Clicking on the icon performs whatever action is selected in the preferences. The action "Open the latest message" works as follows:

- if there is new mail, the most recent message is opened (in your case MN tries to open a Gmail message)
- otherwise, the GNOME mail reader is opened

Clicking the notification icon should open the default mail handler, which is Thunderbird in my case. However, it opens the browser at the address "http://mail.google.com/help/signed_out.html".

This happens some times, not always. And after it happens, clicking the icon again will open Thunderbird.

I'm not sure whether this is mail notification's problem or GNOME's.
