Fixed in the CVS. It's not completely clear to me currently what part I've fixed to make this work, but the results are better now :-)

Please test.

I've noticed that the autofitter sometimes places the tops of characters at different vertical heights, even though the tops are at the same height in the font. This occurs with non-round characters (so no overshoot complications), such as WXYZ. The problem is also more noticeable with the light autofitting, but it sometimes occurs with the normal autofitter as well (see the Z on Aurulent Sans Bold).

The attached screen shots show this problem with Bitstream Vera Sans Bold and Aurulent Sans Bold (which is attached). The problem seems more noticeable with bold fonts.

I am using freetype2-2.3.4 and ft2demos-2.3.4. ftdiff was run at 96 dpi.
