Tue 11 Sep 2007 03:00:25 PM UTC, comment #1: This "File > Import" function is consistent with gnokii --writephonebook. They treat the backslash character as an escape so you need to write "\" in the file to get a "" in the phonebook and ";" to get ";" (all other escape sequences are discarded).

As stated in my previous comment, I committed a patch to make the "File -> Export to file function" compatible with the way "File -> Import" and gnokii --getphonebook/--writephonebook work, that is treating backslashes as escapes.
If you need to import a phonebook saved with an older version of xgnokii I'm afraid you need to edit it doubling all the backslashes.
People willing to test import and export should be aware that the "File -> Import" function replaces the entire phonebook with the one read from file.
