I can't reproduce this on my own Gentoo and Debian systems. I believe it is something specific to your X11 configuration or in any case the gnustep core backend, not the GAP applications. If you still have this problem, please post it on bugs.gnustep.org.

GNUstep apps were working fine previously, but after changing my Xconfig file to support an external flat panel display, they now segfault on starting -- all of them.

It seems the nVidia-setting utility (for generating an xconfig file) confused the internal and external monitor devices, so that the external was being used, but x windows/nvidia 'thought' it was the internal (lower resolution) monitor. Or something. ;)

Attached should be the xconfig file, and a copy of the X log file (with all the nvidia module messages).

Environment

Hardware:

  • Toshiba Satellite P25-507
  • nVidia GeForce FX Go5200 graphics controller
  • external ProView PL926Wbi flat panel with 1440x900 resoltuion

Software:

  • Debian Sarge
  • gcc (GCC) 3.3.5 (Debian 1:3.3.5-13)
  • kernel 2.6.19.1
  • XFree86 4.3.0.1
  • nVidia (proprietary) module version 1.0.9746
  • GNUstep Startup 0.18.1
