Fixed in CVS (init spamc in the "end of headers" callback). Arg. I hate finding bugs right after a release.

I've found it. Part of the "pass usernames to spamc" patch delays forking spamc until a header is received. If you start sending a message body without sending a header, it jumps to code that assumes spamc is running, thus the POLLNVAL errors (since the pipes were never created). A fix will be in shortly, once I figure out the right thing to do.

For what it's worth, I can replicate this running Sendmail 8.12.5 on a Linux box (kernel rev. 2.2.20);

The noticeable mitigating factor is the absence of mail headers in the data portion of the SMTP transaction; if I include a Subject header, then the mail is handled properly.

Both fds[0].revents and fds[1].revents are returning POLLNVAL during the loop.

Ok, something's definitely wrong. The code that is looping is waiting to read from one pipe and waiting to write on the other pipe. Poll is returning "2 fds ready", but the code that actually tests the fds doesn't find them ready, so the whole thing loops again. Try changing line 815:

- debug(2, "poll returned %d", nready);
+ debug(2, "poll returned %d, fd0=%d, fd1=%d", nready, fds[0].revents, fds[1].revents);

rebuild, run with -d2 again, and tell me what gets printed.

Add -d2 to your spamass-milter command and send another message, and paste in the last 30 or so lines from maillog (it'll generate a whole lot of debugging output).

Also, what OS are you running, and what version of sendmail?
