You probably miss one or more of the needed devel packages (gconf, libgsf-gnome, and libgnomeui).
goffice-0.4 should ne in gutsy.
I close this bug at the moment, feal free to reopen if needed. 0.8.3 very soon (monday if possible).

They (ubuntu) don't even have goffice 0.4, which is needed for GCU. I had to compile it myself. So maybe I didn't enable the GNOME support for the goffice0.4. I will try to re-compile goffice, gcu, gchempaint all together. Thanks.

Hmm, which ubuntu version are you using? Seems that they packaged goffice without gnome support, which would explain the issue.

Very strange, I'll try to write a patch so that we can get more information, not just the unsupported format one.

Would this screenshot help?
it seems that it is associated with "x-gchempaint"

(file #13909)

Seems it is #20153. Unfortunately, I can't reproduce. Most probably a gnome-vfs issue.
What mime type is associated with the files in Nautilus?

Hi,

This one is also with the 0.8.2 version with the 3 patches incorporated. I could not open any regular .gchempaint files.
I made sure that I have the latest openbabel (v 2.1.1).
Also I couldn't open .cdx files either.

I've attached 2 example files.
