UPDATE: Just after I emailed the developer, I found the problem. The error was what it sounds like: a Unicode name. In this case, the font began with an "AE" ligature. (I won't try to reproduce it here, you get the idea.)

I also found that, in the 2.0 release, there's an easy way to get the order of fonts after all. In folder.py, uncomment this line:

# print "f is ", f

Then, if you start fp from a terminal, you can switch back and see the listing of fonts. This listing seemed to get the whole directory, so it won't tell you which font breaks fp: you'll need to note the last font that appears in your viewer in fp, then find that font in the listing. The next font, naturally, is the culprit.

Fortunately, I simply renamed the offending font files, and all was well.

I can't tell which font does this, but when I'm using fp, it sometimes will randomly crash, with this error. Since I only see a few fonts listed, rather than a whole page, I'm guessing it's a particular font.

Perhaps if the fonts were displayed alphabetically by filename, or date, or whatever, I could isolate which font was last to appear, and send the next font in for you to look at.

Thanks!
