I've emailed super micro about this - will post their response if I get one.

In handle 0x002C, DMI type 16, the table says that there are 6 memory slots. I don't think this is correct, all the pictures of the X6DLP that I've seen show 8 memory slots.

The memory slots are described by records of type 17, and there are 6 of these in your table (at least this is consistent with the data in the type 16 record). All records of type 17 have the memory size set to 0x0000, which according to the SMBIOS specification, means "no memory device is installed in the socket". This would mean that your machine runs without any memory module, which is rather unlikely ;)

As a summary, after looking at the dump you provided, it appears that dmidecode is decoding your DMI table properly. The problem is that the DMI table is not properly filled by the BIOS. You should report this to Supermicro.

Please also attach the regular output of dmidecode 2.9 on that machine.

dmidecode 2.9 reports 2GB memory installed (correct) but then says there are no memory modules present. AMI BIOS is the latest from Super Micro's web site. I don't know if this is a bug in the BIOS or what. A
dmidecode --dump
is attached. If you need other information, please let me know.
