Yeah, I also think that MS Word in not using the font at all, let's assume this for now. I'll let you know how FreeType 2.3.5 renders the new versions of this font once we get them from LinoType. Then we can either confirm or deny this "bug".

Thanks for excellent support so far.

I consider it impossible that MS Word does the right thing
with this font. I rather suspect that this application doesn't
use this font at all (for whatever reason), probably
mechanically slanting another font. Perhaps you can check
this by creating a PDF directly within MS Word, then using
`pdfinfo' or something like that to analyze the embedded fonts
in the document.

To summarize: This font is probably the result of an incorrect
conversion from a PostScript Type 1 to a TrueType font.
FontForge, as you may have noticed, emits zillions of error
messages; the ttx disassembler can't handle it, etc., etc.
Analyzing the TrueType instructions further shows that the
components in e.g. `Aring' aren't scaled; only offsets are
applied. This means that no special `hidden' effect in the
TrueType interpreter might influence the positioning of the
glyph components.

I've attached a screen shot and my ftoption.h file. As far as I can tell ClearType is disabled. I suspect this is a Font version problem and we've ordered new fonts from LinoType. And FYI it also renders improperly in FontForge. The only place I've seen it correctly is still only MS Word.

This info has been mailed to you aswell including the fault font.

Thanks in advance!

Please provide an image. Additionally, for further
investigation, we need that font (which I don't have, I think).
Since it is a commercial one, please don't post it here but
contact me by email (and David Turner).

Another one: Are you sure this isn't a ClearType issue? It
might also depend on the font's version.

I have a problem with incorrectly rendered multi-glyph characters, such as the swedish aring "Å". The ring itself is off to the left. The problem occurs with Linotype's Helvetica Neue (all sizes), but only with the slanted oblique faces. I've tried 2.2.x and 2.3.5 and I've tried patented hinting and without. I've also tried to favour Microsoft method of sub-glyphs and alos Adobe's method. All renders wrong.

However, the reason I use " in the topic is because using Adobe Reader or Adobe Photoshop on windows I get the exact same problem. Microsoft Word on the other hand renders the characters correctly. So, depending on how you see it it's not wrong, however it looks extremly ugly.

I looked in the source and from what I can tell TT_CONFIG_OPTION_COMPONENT_OFFSET_SCALED doesn't seem to do what the .h file claims. As far as I can tell it will still use Adobe's definition, or at least use the wrong method for this particular font.

I'll keep on investigating...

Any ideas?

Best regards, Andreas Larsson
