Finally this feature got introduced in latest codebase.

'glusterfs--mainline--3.0--patch-878' has the code to do self-heal of sparse files.

AFR/Self-heal does not honour sparse filesystems, in particular on ext3 volumes. (not tested other filesystems)

This is a particular problem for people storing XEN images on glusterfs as a typical XEN base image may be as little as 300MB, but with a 5G file allocation.

At the moment, AFR copies 5G on self-heal as opposed to the 300MB.
