This is a duplication of bug #21880, which is fixed in mercurial.

After setting the rate to 8000, VoiceRecorder.cpp tries to read the current rate by using the SOUND_PCM_READ_RATE ioctl (line 117). This ioctl is not supported by OSS v4.0 [1] - it's soundcard.h defines it as "SOUND_PCM_READ_RATE_is_obsolete". Actually, I don't understand why it tries the read the rate at all, since SNDCTL_DSP_SPEED would return the set rate anyway, and it does nothing with the result (but if it must read the rate, SNDCTL_DSP_SPEED with rate zero is equivalent).
