Acording to the avr-libc user manual here:
<http://www.nongnu.org/avr-libc/user-manual/using_tools.html>
The -mint8 flag is not supported by avr-libc and should not be used with any avr-libc routines.

There are no plans to support -mint8 in the future.

Closing bug.

This happened with avr-libc-1.4.6

printf() putchar() and friends, using
static FILE mystdout = FDEV_SETUP_STREAM(uart_putchar, NULL, _FDEV_SETUP_WRITE);
crash, when the code is compiled with -mint8. My tests run fine without -mint8.

I suggest to add a guard against -mint8 to stdio.h
early, if this is nontrivial to fix.

#if _INT_MAX_ == 127
# error "stdio is incompatible with -mint8"
#endif
