On one machine, I get a consistent reply:

% zonecheck anamera.fr
...
w> [TEST delegated domain is not an open relay]: Timeout
=> generic

w> [TEST can deliver email to 'postmaster']: No route to host - connect(2)
=> generic

w> [TEST domain of the hostmaster email is not an open relay]: Timeout
=> generic

___________

`-------------'
f> [TEST can deliver email to hostmaster]: No route to host - connect(2)
=> generic

==> FAILURE (and 9 warning(s))

The fact that there is no route to mail.hm-software.com (65.119.198.214 denies access) explains that the server sees no connection attempt.

I get a different message at another site:

No host servicing mail for domain argos.net.

Which is, I believe Zonecheck bug #13035 (netmail.hm-software.com has a SPF record, with a different TTL).

Bug 1. It took me a while to figure out that the hostmaster email test actually does NOT test "hostmaster@domain.com", but that you are trying to email to the "responsible person's email address" listed in the SOA record!

Solution: Call it the "SOA Email Address Test"!

Bug 2: Even though the SOA contains a valid email address, and even though that address is a valid mailbox that does receive countless mails daily, and can be tested successfully tested with telnet to port 25, your test claims that mailing is not possible. I checked the mail server logs and see your "postmaster@domain.com" test DOES connect successfully, but I see NO other connections from you IP address or your "mail from" - so there was no apparent attempt to contact the SOA email address (so-called hostmaster).

Solution: Provide more detailed error information, e.g.
- what IP address did the test attempt to deliver to
- what email address did the test attempt to deliver to

Sample:
http://www.afnic.fr/outils/zonecheck/zc.cgi?zone=anamera.fr&afnic=t

falsely reports:
[TEST envoie de mél au "hostmaster"]: No route to host - connect(2)

The SOA email address, and the "postmaster@domain.com" email address are BOTH hosted on the exact same mail server (just on two different domain names). There is no way that one works and the other has "no route to host".
