I don't have access to a neat Debian box (only Ubuntu), so thanks for catching this for me.

I just changed the recommended package to libcurl4-openssl-dev, as it's available on Debian & Ubuntu, so I'll treat it as more Canonical (excuse the pun).

Performing the installation instructions from savanah for a debian system doesn't work on Ubuntu with errors occuring during 'make' related to libcurl functions not found.

Installing package libcurl4-openssl-dev instead of libcurl4-gnutls-dev and running clean, configure, then make fixes the problem. Note that libcurl4-openssl-dev and libcurl4-gnutls are mutually exclusive (only one can be installed at a time).

This issue was seen on Ubuntu 7.10 - the Gutsy Gibbon, 64 bit.
