Current code base has more fix in trash to properly handle 'loc_t' structure, which will make it work above other translators too. But for the best usage scenario, the check to see if posix translator is used below it is in 'init()'.

Thanks for details.

Initial idea of trash was to work only on posix, and hence its only tested over posix. Logically it should have warned and exited if loaded on client side (latest code base it does). I think if you load it above afr, its same as loading it above posix. (though there is a headache of having many trash volumes). But that works fine.

Trash is planned to work like libtrash code, which handles unlink() and rename(), if a empty dir is rmdir()'d, its not stored. when a file is unlinked, whole path of the file will be copied over to trash (hence trashing the directory too).

Gotta force umount whenever glusterfs hangs. Btw, I've also experienced constant hanging after I've removed trash from the translator chain.

I have a simple client-side afr configuration.

Finally, I had to set self-heal to off in afr and now it works fine (xattrs getting trashed? or maybe this is unrelated to trash, dunno).

Btw, trash core dumps glusterfs everytime on mount if I put it above afr, same with putting it above the client translator on the client side, and below afr.

Actually only configuration that worked for me was putting it right above posix on the server side.

I don't like this setup (trash below afr) because now I have /trash which is not afr-ed in the otherwise afr-ed namespace. What I'd like is either be able to put trash over afr and thus have a safe recycle bin, or be able to setup the trash dir outside the afr-ed namespace.

Thanks for this report. I will have a look on it.

about umount, you need to do umount -f always or when you use trash?

Regards,
Amar

glusterfs hangs with trash translator, if you try to delete a directory that it's already in the trash as symlink.

to reproduce, delete a symlink (it will go to trash), then make a directory with that same name, then delete that directory. it causes hanging to any further access to the mount point.

also, dunno if that's a linux bug, gluster bug or just part of the game: you have to do umount -f /mountpoint then umount /mountpoint (the first is not sufficient to unmount).
