What versions are you using of binutils, gcc, and avr-libc?

When I compile your code, I do not see where r1 is getting set to a value of 1.

In the attached files, you'll see the line inside the main() while() loop with the instruction:

//Clear service variable
service = 0;

service is defined as a volatile uint8_t. When I run the JTAG mkII emulator, the assembly code for this line is:

STS 0x0100,R1

0x0100 is the address where the value of service is stored. However, R1 is always 0x01, not 0x00.
