There's now a --with-header option that does this (and a corresponding --without-header option that can be used with regular 'mtn diff'). There's a small difference in that it won't print the "no changes" fake header (even with --with-header), so with no changes the output is empty.

Currently mtn automate content_diff does not output the summary information at the beginning like mtn diff does. The documentation says this is because one can get this information by using get_revision. Whilst true when comparing between parent and child, this does not apply when there are many revisions between the two being compared. This summary information is useful as it briefly describes all the changes made (not just content ones).

Any application using the automate stdio interface to talk to Monotone is forced to spawn a mtn diff command to get the summary information as against using the existing (and hence faster) mtn stdio connection.

Would it be possible to have a `--with-summary' switch to the mtn automate content_diff command that gave this information?

If I have missed the point and in fact there is a simple stdio way of doing this currently (by combining a few commands etc), could you please put an example into the documentation for content_diff.

Many thanks in advance,

Tony.
