The attached screenshot looks significantly different from mine! But adding the patch doesn't change the look of menus on my system, and it fixes it on yours (to a degree) so I've applied it.

fixed in svn.

That's how it's looking right now (menu_fixed.jpg).

What colour are selected menu items?

Inserting the following into the gtkrc file works for me (Note, I didn't really know what I was doing).

#------------------------------------------------------------
style "menu_color"
{
fg[NORMAL] = @fg_color
fg[PRELIGHT] = @fg_color
fg[SELECTED] = @selected_fg_color
fg[ACTIVE] = @fg_color
fg[INSENSITIVE] = darker (@bg_color)
bg[NORMAL] = @bg_color
bg[PRELIGHT] = shade (1.02, @bg_color)
bg[SELECTED] = shade (1.5, @bg_color)
bg[INSENSITIVE] = @bg_color
bg[ACTIVE] = shade (0.9, @bg_color)
}

widget_class "Menu" style "menu_color"
#------------------------------------------------------------

I've had a look at the dat/gtkrc file... and although I don't really understand it, I think the problem might be related to the gtk_color_scheme line. Some of the values are only 3 hex digit long. I suggest you try altering values that line.

I use KDE 3.5.9 (on Gentoo). Concerning gnome, only dependencies that are required by programs such as Gimp are installed. I installed a package called gtk-engine ("GTK+2 standard engines and themes", 2.14.3). Now the buttons of Lordsawar are themed, but it did not solve the menu problem. Are you sure, you set the background color and graphic(?) of those menus explicitly? Or are they influenced on your computer by your desktop theme?

Which window manager do you use?

> Did you override the default gtkrc

I wouldn't know how to do that and where to check for that. Note, I don't use gnome and it's configuration tools, so let's talk about configuration files.

I hope it doesn't depend on a certain theme, because I didn't install any gtk themes (besides the default look).

Well that looks horrible. Did you override the default gtkrc file that comes with LordsAWar?

See screenshot.

Workaround: Enable "Show standard window decorations"
