You did not indicate which release of CVS was in need of support.

The code to support the :extssh: protocol which CVSNT defined is
available in cvs 1.11.22 and cvs 1.11.23 which have already been
released.

The code is also available in the FEATURE branch which will
be released as cvs 1.12.14 eventually. Feel free to extract the
needed patches from the cvs repository to apply to your own
release.

Currently, one has to set the protocol to "ext" which defaults to "rsh" and use "CVS_RSH" env variable to use ssh. However, many third party tools have started using "extssh" protocol (unofficially, I guess).

One such example is the cvs plugin that comes with eclipse. The problem with extensions is that cvs can no longer be used from CLI once it inserts the "extssh" protocol in the CVS/Root file. It would be great if core cvs can support extssh protocol in the official version itself.
