I tried switching from pre-defined tags (ul and li) to non-preferred tags and it proved a little bit more difficult to control the indenting properly.

Janne's suspicion is confirmed and that particular feature of IE5/Mac cannot be overridden if we use default tags (like UL and LI) with CSS.

We need to define our own tags, after which things with Netscape and (lesser non CSS browsers) fall apart.

We still need one test with non-predefined HTML style elements to override the IE5 extra line feature and then kludge a separate CSS for Netscape 4.

I think the problem is that IE uses more space when starting a new
ul tag than between two li tags. Can anybody with IE confirm this? Could we solve the problem by specifying spacing information
by using style sheets?

The rendering in IE didn't change. It is not a major problem, but I think it is not only aesthetical problem: it may affect the way the notes succession is percieved by people (some notes are close together, some far from each other). I think its not about the icon size, but has smth to do with <li> <ul> tags. I don't know how to solve this.

There are no line breaks in the rendered HTML source. Perhaps the browser makes the list items taller because of the TT icon? Please reopen this issue if it hasn't been fixed, or complete it, if your browser works now. The DOCTYPE change Janne made may improve things here as well.

In the thread view of KB in Mac IE5 the list is rendered ugly (there's an empty line before (after?) each <ul>)
