Alright, I'll try to explain a bit more. Every "click" means "left click."
1. Consider a group of 8 units. 5 are strength 8 and have 16 movement; 3 are strength 4 and have 22 movement.
2. Move until the 5 slower units are out of movement.
3. There's a friendly city nearby that you don't consider sufficiently defended for when your enemies' turn arrives. Your 3 units still have 6 movement left - just enough to make it to the city.
Now, the most efficient way to continue has been implemented in Warlords 2.
4. You remove 1 of the faster units from the large group.
5. You click the check mark underneath the singled out unit, that will now be at the very right of the stack, to switch to its group.
7. Click on the other two faster units to add them to this group.
8. Move this group into the city.
There are plenty of other usage scenarios, but they're basically all about splitting up a larger group into a few smaller ones that either go in different directions or move ahead a bit already. Keep in mind that when I say group I may also simply be referring to 1 unit, which is especially relevant when you just want to move 1 unit away from a larger group.
I've also used groups to organize defense. Say 3 units in a group to keep at home and anything else is free to go. In lordsawar I haven't really run into trouble with this because I tend to put defensive units in the bottom left of my cities, but you'd have to run through some hoops to select the units that you want to move away from the city.
I'm not sure how good this explanation is. If it's not good enough then I'll narrate a video, although I'm not sure if I could say anything I haven't already said here.
