Whoa, I guess now we know why it says cost in the buy production value, and not upkeep! I'm stunned that I didn't already know this, or that another fan of the original hasn't mentioned this sooner.
Also, I might as well make the upkeep configurable. It seems like a hack that it's simply half of cost.
I will definitely fix this, but after version 0.1.6. This is a significant change.

Yes, here's a few values. I'm playing on hard, so no enhanced or whatever (that would only affect strength afaik, but just to be sure).
Militia: cost 1, upkeep 0
Hussars: cost 7, upkeep 3
Kanone: cost 12, upkeep 6
Legionnaire: cost 14, upkeep 7
Artillery: cost 16, upkeep 8
Zeppelins: cost 18, upkeep 9
Tanks: cost 20, upkeep 10
I could go on, but it seems quite clear what's happening here to me. The "cost" price is the price to produce the unit, the "upkeep" price is the price you pay to keep the unit in the field. The upkeep is thus floor(cost/2), given how a cost of 7 results in an upkeep of 3 and a cost of 1 results in an upkeep of 0. It does make a lot of sense not to be paying the exact same amount of money for producing a unit as for maintaining it, either way.
I'll have to do a little bit of checking as to whether the same thing happens in all scenarios, but I'm quite sure that it does.
Now that I know this it does make my original suggestion seem a tad silly, but if this is implemented it should of course also be mentioned in the manual. :)
