Ken confirms the issue has been resolved in 0.39.

Hi Ken,

Based on the loremipsumized version of your .bib file, I have redone the parsing algorithms for BibTeX and have been able to correctly parse everything in your file. The worst part was an entry which includes this sequence: '\{"}' (without the single quotes), I had to add a special case for it.

I will release 0.39 later on today; once you confirm it works for you we can close the bug, OK? Thanks!

Hi Ken,

eLyXer does not, in fact, like double quotes in BibTeX entries, even if they are escaped as in your example. But this is not the only issue I am seeing here: # are also failing. Is it at all possible that you send me your whole .bib file, privately? It would be interesting to have a real-life BibTeX database to check these issues. I of course promise to treat it with the utmost confidentiality. Otherwise just extract the entries that you are seeing give eLyXer trouble.

Thanks!

I think I found the problem. By placing some
Trace.debug( )
codes into your python function I narrowed it down a bit. It appears that some escaped characters in my bib database are not handled correctly.

For example:
@INBOOK{AnderssonOebergGuhr2006,
chapter = {Testing Methods to Reduce Noise in Financial Correlation Matrices},
author = {Andersson, Per-Johan and \"{O}berg, Andreas and Guhr, Thomas},
abstract = {As the two noise reduction methods are conceptually different, they
also produce different results. Our preliminary studies cannot serve
as a basis to make schematic suggestions as to which method ought
to be preferred in which situation. This will always be difficult.
But further and systematic studies extending the ones presented here
might yield some guidelines.},
doi = {10.1007/4-431-28915-1},
}

is not liked by the script because of the \". Does this sound plausible? Does elyxer allow for these special characters in a bibtex file?

I created an example lyx document and an example bib database and when I ran elyxer it produced the bibtex document correctly.

When I tried elyxer on my paper with normal bib database I received the following errors:

The style file: 1K__My_Documents_Research_CodeLibraryNew_bibtex_bst_econometrica
-ken1.bst
Database file #1: 0K__My_Documents_Research_CodeLibraryNew_bibtex_bib_ken-main.b

I think that the problem is with my bib file. There is an entry which elyxer does not like but I have over 1500 entries in the bib file so am unable to locate which entry it does not like.

Is it possible for elyxer to provide more details on where in the bib file it is unhappy?

Thanks,
Ken

Hi Alex,

In your documentation on Known Issues at
http://www.nongnu.org/elyxer/userguide.html#toc-Subsection-3.1
you write
"5. BibTeX support is primitive."

I am having problems running elyxer on LyX documents with bibtex. I will post an example to this ticket but it would be nice if either
(1) elyxer could still exit cleanly with bibtex problems,
(2) provide a better description of the problem, or
(3) have fallback settings for processing the references where there is a problem with the bib or bst file.

I'll add an example to this ticket.
