Need to verify all recent network-manager* .debs are now in main repo / install okay. Will do as part of clean install testing this month.

Works under 2.6.32.1-libre-loongson + network-manager 0.7.

This might just be a timing issue (yeeloong is significantly slower that amd64 laptop, thinkpad x61s, I was testing on).

Possibly related bugs:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/263963

Also confimed that same issue is seen on debian squeeze / mipsel with 2.6.31 linux from gnewsense.

Most cannonical test was:

(a) Started from totally new/clean 2.6.27 libre /gNS metad install. Connected to a WPA network via network-manager without problems.

(b) Did an aptitude dist-upgrade to get 2.6.31.6-libre1 linux, edited /etc/boot.cfg, and rebooted with new linux.

(c) Now when trying to connect to WPA network, network manager hangs forever.

3 points of information:

(a) It is not possible to (at least easily) to build the older r8187 module for 2.6.31 and later linux - see http://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/4264 "linux kernel 2.6.31 removes support for old net_device api"

(b) Under amd64 gNS 3 beta, an external USB rtl8187 device, alfa network awus036h, works under a recompiled debian sid 2.6.31 linux - .config for that attached as config-2.6.31-1-amd64 - this suggests that the problem is not with the versions level of userland tools, but either with the driver code or random enabled or disabled options in the yeeloong 2.6.31.

(c) I am also close to trying 2.6.31 under debian squeeze on the yeeloong, but the above point leads me to believe it probably will not work; I will update this ticket when that is done.

After this I guess I'll diff the attached config with the yeeloong config and try another compile.

It would also be useful to know if other people are or are not seeing this problem, and if anyone has seen a change with 2.6.32.
