Hi Sam,

It's resolved now so feel free to close out this bug. It was sorted by purging and reinstalling gnash* after reading Aurélien's post and realizing he didn't have gnash installed.

I checked both the gnash and gnash-common packages and only the gnash one contains gnash.xpm. I reinstalled the packages on my system and didn't see the gnash.xpm error.

Eric, is this still a problem for you?

As for Gnash failing to run, please open another bug report for that.

Installing the latest gnash packages (trunk20090313) fails with
Unpacking replacement gnash ...
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/gnash_trunk20090313_i386.deb (--unpack):
trying to overwrite `/usr/share/pixmaps/gnash.xpm', which is also in package gnash-common
dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe)

After running apt-get -f install gnash fails when run:
/usr/bin/gtk-gnash: error while loading shared libraries:
libgnashnet.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or
directory.

ldd /usr/bin/gtk-gnash|grep not returns:
libgnashnet.so.0 => not found
libgnashsound-trunk-20090313.so => not found
libgnashnet.so.0 => not found
libgnashsound-trunk-20090313.so => not found

There's been recent discussion on the gnash-dev mailing list regarding this starting at http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/gnash-dev/2009-12/msg00050.html

http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/gnash-dev/2009-12/msg00056.html suggests this is a bug in the building of the deb packages which was fixed a few days ago in gnash trunk.
